Vietnam: backpackers short travel guide

Until my relationship with Vietnam is like Love & Hate story. This country is still amazing.

I like it cause it gave me experience I have never felt anywhere else. I've spent 2 months in Vietnam. first month bought motorbike and did 3000km Hanoi to HCM cross-country. Another months sold my bike and did HCM to Hanoi by sleeper buses mostly. Another picturesque option is travel by train. Vietnam is destination to feel dark history, touch culture, enjoy nature, taste traditional food and it's heaps what to do. Keep in mind safety though.
I have decided to rank Vietnam by stars. I give stars from my own experience in relevance with the rest of Asia I've been before. Stars mean quality rate. And as more stars as better obviously for the fellow backpacker in general.

My personal VIETNAM twinkle Stars:

Video: Hopeless Wanderer - Mumfordandsons

Best music list describing my state of mind at the moment.

Still kicking. 14 months still backpacking. What I see, smell and feel. Are we kicking-in or kicking-out. Have a look at Mumford & Sons - Hopeless Wanderer. Constantly on repeat lately.

Vietnam: my personal backpacking highlights

Short personal highlights of Vietnam: 2 months backpacking review. Traveling is not something you are Good at. It's something you Do. Like Breathing.
"How you feel if registered Hanoi Taxi driver would point UZI machine gun in your head? Would you like to write an open letter now, thanking somebody who saved your life?"

UPDATE. I've spent 2 months in Vietnam only and you know what... it was different Southeast Asia experience. It's like Love & Hate feeling at the same time. Adventure pumping through the veins. It's not party time, it's not only amazing sightseeing or East beaches.. the best word to describe Vietnam is Adventure. Doesn't matter what you are going to read in few moments.
Trust me. It's worth to visit Vietnam.

Real Life Lessons I've learned from Travel

Travel to learn yourself
One year traveling solo: you will learn much MORE about yourself than in first 29 years of my life. Meditation course will kick it even further.
  • You will fall in love easily. You will break few hearts and somebody will break yours. Fair game.
  • Sometimes being alone is OK.
  • Real Asia and West difference will CHANGE you.

My favorite backpackers hostels in Asia

Personally recommend 10 TOP cheap hostels / hotels where to stay in Asia.

This is my five stars personal list when  backpacking one year year South East Asia and some else Asia as Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Korea.

Top 3 hostels obviously is my favorite. One more time again it's my favorite list and the prices are what I paid for. It could depend on the season, week day, etc:

1. Under Coconut Tree HoiAn, Vietnam (dorm bunk bed 6$, fancy bungalow 35$).

2. Discovery Hostel Taipei, Taiwan (dorm bunk 8$, private 20$).

3. Birds Nest 2 Hostel Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (dorm bunk bed 5$, double air-con room 18$).

4. Funky Flashpacker Siam Reap, Cambodia (dorm bunk bed 6$, double room 12$).

How to find Cheapest Flights

UPDATED: 31/3/2016. How to find the Cheapest Flights possible? You will say "Hey Skyscanner is the answer!" In most cases wrong.
Wrong especially when its not that popular route or domestic flight lets say in my cases: Japan, Cambodia, Philippines, Korea, Laos etc. Anyhow first of all you need to know few basic rules before diving into your deeper research.

  • Check comparison sites like Kayak, Skyscanner, Momondo.
  • Check all known TRUSTED deals sites. Like in my case I check HolidayPirates, Hotukdeals, TheFlightDeal, SecretFlying (not necessary you need to be in UK or US, just type your origin and destination. All you need to find airline on promotion).
  • Book as early as possible (especially if its international flight).
  • Be flexible with your travel dates. Flights on TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY are usually the cheapest (especially domestic).

If you still can not find good price for your flight:
